Just one bite .....

There is a new health threat to dogs in the Central West. Heartworm used to be found just in warmer parts of Australia but it is now in all states, thanks to changing weather patterns and warmer winters. Recent cases have been found in Penrith and Mt Annan as well as Molong and several cases have been reported in Orange. Working dogs and dogs who live out of town are particularly at risk.

Infected mosquitoes can bite your dog and inject tiny larvae into their bloodstream. These larvae migrate to the heart and lungs, where they grow into parasitic worms. Dogs can be protected with a convenient annual injection or with chews, tablets or spot on treatments, but its dangerous to start your dog on Heartworm prevention without testing for the parasite first.

This month your dog can have a FREE heartworm test (worth over $100) when he or she starts on annual heartworm protection injections. Phone for an appointment or book online.
