Ouch! The weather for the next few days will be HOT! Please take a minute to prepare as some breeds of dog are very vulnerable to heat stroke. Flat nosed (brachycephalic) dogs like pugs, boxers, bulldogs, pekingnese and some spaniels find it hard to cool down and should never be allowed to overheat - keep them inside during hot weather.

Elderly or very young dogs of all breeds also find hot weather difficult so do not exercise them during the heat of the day - remember the pavements can stay hot even after the sun has gone down. You can check the temperature of the pavement by resting your hand on it for a few moments. If it's hot for your hand, then it's too hot for paws!

All other pets and outside animals will need shade and plenty of water. Direct sunlight can overheat and kill your pocket pets like guinea pigs, so please ensure they stay indoors or in the shade. Stay cool everyone!
