Hot days ahead!

The next few days are forecast to be HOT! Please look out for your pets. Do not walk your dog in the heat and always check the temperature of the pavement before setting out – concrete pavements hold onto heat late into the evenings, so find somewhere grassy, or get out early morning before things heat up. Make sure all animals have accesss to shade and plenty of water – provide two large bowls if you’re leaving your dogs alone, in case one gets knocked over. Don’t put dogs on the back of the Ute in full sun and provide a rubber mat for them to stand on – metal trays can get burning hot. Rabbits and guinea pigs are very vulnerable to heat so make sure their cages are in the shade and bring your pets inside during the hottest part of the day. Puppies, senior dogs and flat nosed (brachycephalic) breeds like French bulldogs, pugs and boxers will need extra care over the next 4 days. Signs of heat stress include drooling, excessive panting and a rapid heart rate – heat stroke can be fatal so please contact us if you have any concerns about your pets.
